Seniors Masterclass: Falls in Older AdultsFalls are the leading cause of traumatic injuries in older adults in Singapore. In this upcoming masterclass series happening every Tuesday in July, learn how to identify and manage various fall injuries, fall-proof your home, learn exercises to reduce fall-risks and identify psychological trauma after a fall. For registration, scan the QR code or go to sign up link: https://for.sg/registerfalls World Trauma Day 2023To commemorate World Trauma Day 2023, we held a lunch time webinar on "Preparing for Overseas Travel and Injuries" on the 17 October 2023. A total of 450 attendees participated in the webinar conducted by Dr Goh Mui Heng and Adj A/Prof Teo Li-Tserng. In addition, a roving exhibition "Be Trauma Aware, Take Action" was held from 16 October to 22 December 2023 at four locations- Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, Toa Payoh Public Library and Woodlands Regional Library. The exhibition encouraged members of public to be aware of trauma mechanisms and take steps to prepare and prevent injures.
Design a Tote Bag Contest
Design a Tote Bag Contest was held from 2 January to 31 March 2023. The contest aimed to raise awareness about traumatic injury prevention through four safety themes- 1) Road Safety, 23) Fire Safety, 3) Water Safety and 4) Fall Safety. Through creative thinking and designing, a total of 242 participants submitted their original works. The top winner of each category had their designs printed on canvas tote bags and distributed during World Trauma Day 2023 activities.
School Programme on Trauma Injury and Prevention
Trauma affects individuals of all ages, in particular, the young children. On top of falls and vehicular accidents being the leading causes of death and disability in Singapore, drowning and sports injuries are also common injury mechanisms which can be prevented in the early stages. It is crucial be equipped with necessary knowledge and skills in responding to the various emergency situations before professional help arrives.
The "Be Trauma-Aware, Take Action" programme seeks to partner with schools in Singapore to promote awareness of injury prevention and management. By utilizing scenario-based learning and insights from trauma specialists, the programme aims to enhance the school curriculum and empower students and teachers to minimize the occurrence of injuries and manage them appropriately before professional medical help arrives.
